Day 2 and Still Smiling!

Yesterday I started the new job. I’m now hanging my hat at Eventbrite, and so far it’s been really great. It’s an awesome group of really nice and smart people that I’m quite happy to now be a part of. In fact, I’ll actually be a little be sad to miss work on Friday, but I guess I can’t be too sad since I’ll be on vacation at the Happiest Place on Earth. Plus I’ll be back on Monday after all.

Family Fun and Cake Too!

Rome: “Hey you gotta write a post about last weekend”

Laura: “I’m tired, do I have to do it now?”

R: “Yes! It’s almost the next weekend, people are gonna be all confused.”

L: “Fine, what did we do?”

R: “Ummm…. ate burgers and stuff?”

L:  “Right, at five guys! That place was great.”

R: “Yeah, you know president Obama eats there!”

L: “Yes I know, you kept saying that the whole time.”

R: “Then we finished driving to your parent’s place, and your dad got me a congrats on the new job cake! It was really tasty!”

L: “Yum, chocolate ganache.”

L: “Then you went nutso on my mom’s kindergarten’s class computers!”

R: “Well it was just a simple upgrade… at first…”

L: “It took 10 and a half hours!”

R: “But you have to admit they are running better with a new OS on them right?”

L: “That’s true, they are running great.”

R: “Your mom needs to get some adult sized chairs around there though.”

R: “Your dad also made us some awesome dinners.”

L: “Yup, mizutake and korean ribs, with Kris and Kelly’s recipe.”

R: “Mmmmmmm… such good foods. I ate so much that weekend. Good times.”

L: “Definitely good times, now back to the week…”

R: “Ummm… I’ve been off all this week and you are posting this on a Thursday night, the weekend is almost here.”

L: “Haha. True.”

That’s a Wrap

Well the time has finally come. After three and a half years, I’m moving on from my job at Linden Lab. Today is my last day, so last night Laura came and picked me up. Together we cleaned out my desk. We were both surprised at some of the stuff I’ve accumulated over the many months, here’s a slide show of the highlights:

  1. A USB missile defense system - You gotta protect your desk somehow right?
  2. A back massage pillow - I won this in a white elephant exchange back in Christmas of `08.
  3. A Starcraft marine figurine - OK this is from Blizzcon.
  4. A mini helicopter - A birthday present from my dad in `09. Great for annoying co-workers.
  5. A 5x5 Rubik’s Cube - Surprisingly this is one of two 5x5 Rubik’s cubes I own. Number I’ve solved… zero.
  6. A thing that opens those ridiculous plastic packages that everything comes in! - Purchased for me off my Amazon wish list. It works OK, but not as great as one might have hoped.
  7. A little wooden dude - Brought back for me as a souvenir from a friend’s trip to Hawaii.

In a week, I start my new gig and also a new collection. Maybe this time some of the stuff will actually be work related.

Driven Away

Once again I have driven a beautiful girl away from me… literally! Today Laura left to go and visit her grandparents in Vegas, so on my lunch break I drove her to the airport. We timed things so that we were also able to grab lunch together before her flight. We ended up eating at a nice little sushi restaurant in Burlingame and afterward we stopped by the candy shop next door for ice cream. Both were delicious. Now we have four days to spend apart… what to do… any suggestions?

Best Soup Ever

The flu is a terrible thing- fever, chills, and body aches. But having the flu last week also taught me a few things about the bf. Not only is Rome a great doctor when you’re sick, but he is an excellent soup-maker. His homemade rotisseire chicken soup may even rival his famous popcorn (I know, hard to believe!) Made from a rotisserie chicken, vegetables and chicken broth - it’s a keeper.

My Cans! My Antique Cans!!

So Laura decided that it was time to go through my kitchen cabinets and reorganize. In the process, she discovered that I had some canned goods that might have been not so fresh and threw them all out! (Technically, this being San Francisco, she composted the food and recycled the cans.) Apparently she’s too good to eat Chef Boyardee Ravioli that expired in 2005. Now all I have left is a can of green beans that doesn’t expire until August. In a surprising conicidence, Laura’s birthday is also in August, can anybody guess what’s on the birthday dinner menu?

More Hardware

So I’ve spent the last couple of weeks messing around with some old free computer parts that I got from work. I ended up with 2 more working computers, so now we have one in the bedroom, I replaced the one in the living room, and I’m debating putting one in the kitchen. Laura on the other hand has spent the past couple of weeks politely mentioning that my one-bedroom apartment probably doesn’t need 9 different things connected to the internet. She could be right, but I don’t think she’ll actually draw a line until I try to put a computer in the bathroom. (Though, I’m not actually considering that… at least not right now.)

Meet the Parents

The other weekend Laura’s mom and dad were in town, so I got to hang out with them. From what I’ve gathered from my friends’ reactions, meeting your girlfriend’s parents is usually a big point of stress in a relationship. For me though it was good times. They are really nice and fun people. But that’s not surprising, after all it would take cool people to raise such a cool girl.

Happy Valentine’s Day

Hope you had a great one. Ours was awesome - filled with cards, roses, dark chocolate-covered strawberries, dark chocolate, champagne, steak, sunfish, rose petals and candlelight. Thanks Rome for all the Valentine’s day surprises, it was more than I ever expected.

Ridiculous or Brilliant?

At first I thought Laura’s idea to use the fact that sonicare toothbrush heads are magnetic in order to store them was completely ridiculous and crazy. However, after putting them like that for a few days it actually seems to be working out pretty well. So I guess the idea might have actually been ridiculously brilliant… I suppose its like Aristotle said “No great genius has ever existed without some touch of madness.”
