What a Weekend!

What a crazy busy, but fun weekend. With visiting friends, roomates’ b-day parties, working out, hanging out with visiting family, plus planning and executing a fantastic superbowl party, we were running around the whole time. In fact, we barely had time to stop and smell… er… take a picture of the flowers.

‘Twas a Fortnight Before V-day…

Once upon a time, there was a handsome prince named Rome. Prince Rome had a great life with only one problem; being cold. Until one day a beautiful princess named Laura brought him a warm blanket made from magical goose feathers. This blanket could keep you warm even on the coldest of San Francisco nights. The princess had laid out a plan to surprise the prince with this magical blanket on Valentines day. But when she saw how terribly much he shivered in the cold, her heart went out to him and she couldn’t let him suffer any longer. So she gave the magic blanket to the prince two weeks early, who received it with gratitude and rejoiced. For he was no longer cold, and all in the land were happy! And they lived that way for the rest of their days.

Holiday Party

On Saturday night we went to my company’s holiday party. (Which is traditionally in late January after everybody has forgotten about the holidays, for some reason.)  Anyway this year they had a casino night setup where you could play craps and roulette and then cash out for raffle tickets. Thanks to Laura’s awesome strategy of “Quitting while you are breaking even” we were able to enter 5 tickets into the raffle, and we won 3rd prize! A fifty dollar amazon gift certificate!

The Rotten Mango

This Sunday we made a huge Paleo feast, including an egg scramble (with bacon, tomatoes, onions, pepper, and mushroom), carrot and potato hash, cold cucumber and tomato salad, chorizo sausage, green tea…and one mango.

Rome cut the mango open to reveal a grey center.

At which point I said, “Too bad that mango is rotten.”

Crestfallen but still determined, Rome replied, “It’s not that bad, we can eat it.”

He looked so sad that I didn’t want to burst his bubble. So I let him slice it, but I made sure it stayed on a plate by itself. Only Rome ate the mango…

K.I.T.

Nothing says keeping in touch like 46 inch video chat sessions. This weekend we broke our personal records for number of video chats, size of video chats and extremeness of closeups.

Now, with our new rig if anybody has anything to say to us, they can say it big from anywhere with an internet connection!

How to Eat Paleo in Japantown…

Among ramen, sushi rice and tempura, eating paleo can be a bit tricky. Our solution?

Yup Benihana, where dinner is the show… and afterward we saw a movie, where the show is the show. :-)

Paleo Starts Tomorrow

So we’ve decided that we’re both going on a strict paleo diet starting tomorrow, so today was the last hurrah with all those complex carbs and refined sugar. (Well at least for 30 days.)

Starting with…

the triple threat burrito from Papalote!

As always when you put 3 kinds of meat in the same food it turns out really good. Here are the action shots:

Then it was off to delores park for 4 flavors of Bi-rite awesomeness:

(Honey Lavendar, Brown Sugar, Butter Pecan and Orange Cardamom. Also pictured cone.)

The ice cream was the perfect complement to the sunny San Francisco weather, and speaking of complements, a couple of hippies said that we were “so cute with that ice cream”. Though judging from the smell in the air I think they might have been in a chemically altered state at the time.

After a nap and a bit of a break it was off to Polkers for burgers and a strawberry milkshake. (Gotta get as much ice cream as possible in right?)

And then back home, thats a wrap… well we did have some aspirations about finishing off the night with homemade chocolate chip cookies, but since it was late and we were both tired and full we ended up just lighting a chocolate chip cookie scented candle instead and used our imaginations.

A Good Morning

A ham egg and cheese croissant, a strawberry nutella crepe with ice cream on the side, plus holding hands by an open window makes for a great start to a warm sunny Saturday San Francisco morning.

And on the walk back I’m pretty sure we found the telephone pole that holds the Guinness world record for most staples stuck in it.(Or at least it would if that record existed.)

Lots of Meat

We found ourselves in Palo Alto and ended up going to the Brazilian steakhouse. That much food requires a game plan, ours was get only a bit of each appetizer and to only eat them after each bite of meat. We managed to get in every piece of meat they serve, including the chicken hearts. Actually we had already decided to forgo the chicken hearts and had turned over the card saying no more, when all of the sudden this guy who we hadn’t seen all night appeared out of no where with the skewer of chicken hearts and a big smile. I think his only job must be to push those chicken hearts on people. They aren’t our favorite thing but we still ate one in the interest of completeness, plus we didn’t want to disappoint chicken heart guy.
